Senate Committee to Hold Ticketing Industry Hearing

The chair of the committee states there is not enough competition in the marketplace.

Senators Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Mike Lee of Utah announced that the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin hearings to address a “lack of competition” in the ticketing market. Senator Klobuchar is the chair of the subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, and Senator Lee is a ranking member. The ticketing industry has been dominated by Ticketmaster for some time, and recent issues during the sale of tickets for Taylor Swift’s latest tour has garnered attention to the outlet.

“For too long, consumers have faced high fees, long waits, and website failures, and Ticketmaster’s dominant market position means the company faces inadequate pressure to innovate and improve,” Senator Klobuchar stated. “We will examine how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industries harms customers and artists alike,” she added. “Without competition to incentivize better services and fair prices, we all suffer the consequences.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senators Klobuchar and Lee as they launch the hearing into Ticketmaster’s dominance in the ticket industry.
  • For members of the Senate as they seek to protect consumers from monopolies.
  • For representatives in the House Judiciary Committee as they determine the focus of their investigations.
